Meetings About Mobility, the first Monday of the Month
22 Jul
We have space at Stanford for the next Mobile Monday! Carlos Miranda Levy from the Reuters Digital Vision Program found us a location that should be great for the huge group that shows up every month. We had a couple of offers for meeting space, thank you to everyone who offered! I know that some folks come down from San Francisco or over from the east bay to attend the events. I’m lining up some spaces so that we can rotate around the location. It can be a pain to get over here for an event that starts at 7pm, and by the time you make it home after leaving MoMo it can be pretty late. I hear you! Alternative locations are coming.
The topic for the month is going to be devices. We’re going to hear from some folks working on devices with either unique form factors or different software platforms (or both). They’ll talk about why they’ve departed from the norm and what needs they hope to address. Once again I’m hoping to make good use of the elmo for showing off some interesting devices and software. If you have a unique device or an interesting platform being used by device manufacturers please let me know if you would like to present on August 1st. Email me at miker at bitsplitter dot net. Note! I did not say “Email Russ so that he can forward me along whatever you send and create additional confusion about who I’ve responded to and who I stil owe emails to”. Got it? Email me, miker at bitsplitter dot net. Here’s the essentials:

Hey, if you haven’t joined the Mobile Monday Yahoo! Group, you’re missing out on some great job postings. In the past few days we’ve seen job offers from Google, Macromedia, Motricity, France Telecom and a startup called MobileScan.
This is exactly what we’re hoping will happen with that list, if you’re in the market, definitely sign up and check it out!

Wow! Last night was amazing! We filled up a 220 seat meeting area to capacity (we had to open up an extra wall to do it) and had 8 presenters give 2 packed hours of demos. Very cool stuff too. Check out the Mobile Monday Flickr tag for more pics of the great meeting area (thanks AOL!) and pics of the demos themselves.
One year after Mobile Monday started and it’s a raging success. Thanks to everyone who both presented and attended last night!
See you in August!

Here’s the list of folks who have requested slots for demos at the July 11th meeting:

Because the first Monday of July is the 4th of July, a holiday, we’re going to be holding the July MoMo on the 11th instead. As Russ mentioned already, the topic for the month will the demos. Stuff working and running on a phone, show off your software. Be it a commercial product or a project you’re hacking on in your free time. Slots for presentations are 10 minutes long and will be strictly enforced by me and my trusty cattle prod. If you’re interested in giving a demo just email me (miker at bitsplitter dot net) with info about who you would like to present and what the app is.
The meeting is going to be at AOL this time! Mike Li was nice enough to hook us up with Holly Liu from AOL, and Holly found us some space on their campus. Thank you to both Mike and Holly! Here’s the standard rundown of the essentials for the meeting:
I’m gonna hold off on posting the list of demos till next week. Some of this stuff is under rapid development, and the folks want to make sure that everything is setup before the announcement goes out. That means if you come down you’ll have a chance to see some of these applications for the first time in public. So come on down on July 11th for some fresh-off-the-compiler mobile goodness!
